Digital Artwork

My Journey as a Digital Artist

After spending a lifetime following various creative pursuits (visual arts, writing, music), I’ve discovered a new medium:  Generative AI. I’ve always been enamored by digital art as a way of expressing myself in a more “forgiving” medium than traditional painting techniques (if you don’t like it, just Ctrl+Z). However, the time investment required to create the depth I am looking for has been a barrier. Now that I’ve jumped head-long into AI design tools like Midjourney, I’ve become quite the enthusiast. Through my own exploration and experience, I am eager to showcase the immense potential of this revolutionary technology, giving each of us new means of expressing creativity, streamlining productivity and transforming the way we work.

A Note About the Future of AI

Much has been written and many discussions are in flight about how generative AI technology presents significant risks. I don’t disagree with many of these arguments and have serious concerns about AI’s impact on creative professionals, as well as humanity at large, through copyright violations, IP theft, job displacement, technology disruptions and other unforeseen consequences. I fully recognize the pitfalls and risks, however I’ve chosen to embrace the technology’s potential, looking to become it’s master, not it’s victim. I’m “hopeful” that well-intentioned technologists and governmental leadership will lead the way to greater controls and governance around how this technology is developed and applied. That said, it will be imperative that each and every one of us keeps beating that drum, placing unrelenting pressure to protect us from the worst intentions and outcomes. Time will tell.
